Mary B. Vitanza
Mary Barbara Celeste Vitanza, born October 6, 1925 and a longtime resident of Binghamton, NY, passed away Dec 18, 2012 in Daytona Beach, FL. Daughter of Daniel and Anne Celeste, she grew up working at her family’s restaurant, Celeste Tavern.
Mary was a natural in the kitchen, Christmas Eve feasts and meatballs after church were her specialties and her family’s favorite. Outside of the kitchen, Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who lived for her family with grace and generosity. Mary’s family will miss her quiet strength and kind words this holiday season and forever more, but are comforted knowing she is joining the angels, including her husband of 57 years, Matthew J. Vitanza, and her son, John Michael.
She is survived by her sister, Bertha Colavito, five children and their spouses, Matthew and Susan Vitanza, Celeste and Mark Belyea, Mark and Sharon Vitanza, Luke and Theresa Vitanza and Margaret and Robert Ciganek; thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many loving family members and friends.
Friends are invited to a Mass to celebrate Mary's life at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St, Binghamton, New York on December 29th at 10:00am.
Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Ste. 304, Ormond Beach FL 32174 in Mary's name.
