Mary A Ricketts' Obituary
Mary A. Ricketts, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Palm Coast, Florida. She was born on February 4, 1941. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, George and Ouida Paradise Latimer; her sister, Louise O’Hara; her husbands, James E. Ricketts and William Thomas; her son, William L. Thomas; her nephews, James, Michael, and Leon O’Hara; and her niece, Cassandra G. O’Hara.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love through her sons, Richard C. Thomas and Robert L. Thomas; her niece, Tammy O’Hara; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She will be missed beyond measure by her loved ones, as well as her beloved companion of 22 years, Michael French, and her beloved bowling partner of 44 years, Saneen Cochran. One of her greatest blessings was meeting and holding her great-great-grandson, born December 22, 2025—a moment she cherished deeply before her journey home.
Born in Sandersville, Georgia, Mary moved to Winter Park, Florida, at age 11. She graduated from Robert Hungerford High School in 1958, proudly earning her place on the Girls Varsity Basketball team as a sophomore. She carried that same determination, strength, and spirit into every chapter of her life.
The most important part of Mary’s life was her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with her whole heart. Strong, steadfast, and unshakable in her faith, Mary lived her life as a servant of God and a woman of prayer. She was a faithful and active member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Winter Park, Florida, for 47 years, where she worshiped, served, and built lifelong friendships. Her walk with the Lord was evident in her kindness, her compassion, and the peace she carried with her everywhere she went.
Mary was a devoted wife, a loving mother of three boys, and the heart of her family. She loved deeply, gave generously, and held her family together with the same care and patience she used in her lifelong craft.
For 60 years, Mary worked as a professional seamstress—an artist with a needle and thread. She stitched with precision, creativity, and love. Her hands were steady, her eye was sharp, and her talent touched countless lives. Whether creating garments, altering uniforms, or bringing cherished pieces back to life, Mary wove beauty into everything she touched. Her workmanship was dependable, delicate, and full of pride—much like her spirit.
Bowling was her greatest pastime and passion. She earned many awards and tournament victories over the years, competing joyfully until the age of 83. Mary had a way of turning strangers into friends and friends into family. Her laughter was warm, her smile unforgettable, and her presence left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, love, and support during this time.
In honor of her wishes, a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service are in Charge of the arrangements.
