Maryann Light's Obituary
Maryann Light was born Maryann Jane Butler July 9th, 1944 to Joseph and Mary Butler in Hartford CT. She died May 1, 2022 of a mercifully short illness at the age of 77. She is survived by her husband, Alan Light and daughter Jennifer Light who resided with her in Palm Coast, Florida where she wanted to live in the warm sun near the beach.
Raised in Hartford CT as an only child, her early years were secure and happy within an extended family that had earlier migrated from Ireland and Poland. Fiercely independent, she knew what she wanted out of life and charted her course in early adulthood attending the University of Arizona - Tuscon. If you had asked her back then what she wanted to be she would have said a “home economics” major. While In college however, she decided accounting was a more portable profession and one she could sustain on her own. She was always an outstanding cook and homemaker, so those home economics attributes and desires remained. Armed with a college degree, a short stint in the Peace Corp, she returned to Hartford and began working in the financial services sector. A natural leader, she began a life-long series of progressive positions at Advest brokerage and Aetna insurance. She was up and on her own by the early 70s. In 1979, she met her future husband of 42 years, Alan Light. That relationship flourished and they married in June of 1980. In 1985, a beautiful baby girl, Jennifer Eleanor “Jen”, was born to them and she began to shift her focus to being a mother. Her priorities then became her family and home, just as she had hoped for when younger. She managed to work travel into all her support roles providing a wonderful childhood for Jen. She always was an active volunteer at Jen’s schools and outside interests. Maryann was multi-talented as an outstanding seamstress, cook, and gardener, always having an abundance of DIY home and house projects underway wherever they lived. It was a good life well done and her strong presence will be missed.
