MaryAnne S. Giordano's Obituary
On June 18, 2026, the Lord called home MaryAnne (Strieder) Giordano, a woman whose life was defined by quiet devotion, generous service, and a warm presence that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was 90 years old.
To know MaryAnne Giordano was to know what it looks like when a person gives themselves fully — to their faith, to their family, to their community, and to the strangers who became neighbors simply because she made them feel welcome. She leaves behind a legacy not of grand gestures, but of faithful, daily love. And that is the finest legacy of life.
MaryAnne was born on August 22, 1935, in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she grew up and graduated from Academy High School in 1954. Two years later, she married the love of her life, Sam Giordano, beginning a partnership that would shape every chapter of the life that followed.
After their wedding in 1956, Maryanne and Sam built their life together in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, where they would remain for nearly four decades. Those years were rich with community involvement and purpose. Among their proudest shared accomplishments was playing an integral role in the effort to raise funds for new band uniforms at Brookside High School in Sheffield Lake in 1976 — a contribution that left a lasting mark on the students and families of that community.
In 1993, MaryAnne and Sam made the decision to move to Ormond Beach, Florida, drawn by something that mattered most to her: family. Being closer to her son Thom was reason enough, and the arrival of her grandsons Christian in 1995 and Nicholas in 1998 only deepened the joy of that decision. Those boys were her sunshine.
Ormond Beach became more than a new address — it became the place where MaryAnne truly bloomed in service to others. For 22 remarkable years, she volunteered at Memorial Hospital/AdventHealth in Ormond Beach, offering her time, her compassion, and her steady presence to patients and staff alike. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did, and it found beautiful expression in her role as an ordained Franciscan Minister at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, where she distributed communion and welcomed fellow parishioners as a greeter with the warmth only she could offer.
Mondays and Wednesdays held a special place in MaryAnne’s heart — those were her card days with the ladies at the Ormond Beach Senior Center. Anyone who knew her knew how much she treasured that time: the laughter, the friendly competition, the simple pleasure of good company. She was never happier than when she was among people she loved.
MaryAnne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam, who passed in 2016. She is survived by her son Thom Giordano; her cherished grandsons, Christian and Nicholas; and their mother, Catherine — all of whom she held close, both in proximity and in her heart, in the Ormond Beach area. Should you wish to donate in her honor, please consider doing so to the local organization most dear to her heart- the Council on Aging / Ormond Beach Senior Center here: https://www.coavolusia.org/donate/index
A private interment was held at Volusia Memorial Gardens in Ormond Beach, Florida. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, FL assisted the family with arrangements. https://www.HeritageFlagler.com
