Peter Manuel Ortiz's Obituary
Peter Manuel Ortiz, Son of Herminio & Clorinda Ortiz, was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, on
April 26th, 1937. He grew up in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico,with three brothers and four sisters. In
1951, as a young man, he joined his older sister in NYC, where he worked to help bring his
family to live in NYC. Later, he became a Teamster and Supervisor at Winsale Drug Company.
In 1963, he joined the Army and served while stationed in Germany. He was recognized as an
Expert Rifleman and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for Exemplary Behavior and
Efficiency. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1965 and returned to the US, where he
continued to work for Winsale Drug Company. In 1975, he started a welding business with his
brother Angelo. He learned the trade and became a successful Stainless Steel Engineer and
Fabricator.
Peter was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, godfather and friend. Peter Ortiz
passed away on January 10, 2024. He is survived by his wife and the mother of his children,
Evelyn. He was a Father to three boys: Joseph, Peter, and Christopher Ortiz. Grandfather to
Jacob, Samantha, John, Sophia, Lucas, Christopher, Theodora and Gabriela Ortiz. Great
Grandfather to Julian, Jacob, Jacque, and Ariyelis H Ortiz. May he rest in Peace. He will live
forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Peter's Life will be 1:00PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.
