Philip Wahl Swain, age 98, of Ormond Beach, FL, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012.
He was born on February 26, 1914 in Alden, NY to the late Herbert C. Swain and Jane Wahl Swain. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Ohio State University, and shortly thereafter served his country in the United States Army (Pacific Theater) during World War II. Phil was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his services. After the war, he resumed his architect’s career in Buffalo, NY.
Upon retirement from his architecture practice, Phil and his late wife Esther relocated to the Ormond Beach area where they continued their love of dancing. Phil soon became noted for his many sketches of the local architectural scene, which were often displayed in public exhibits. He was a life-long fan of Ohio State Football, and along with his friend Elaine Schilke, Phil was an active member of the local dancing community.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Esther and his brother, John E. Swain Sr.
Phil is survived by his nephews, John E. Swain Jr. and Philip B. Swain, his niece, Sally L. Smith, and long-time companion Elaine Schilke.
