Randolph Woodrow McKay's Obituary
Randolph “Randy” Woodrow McKay, age 83, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on July 20, 2025 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House due to complications from pneumonia. He was born on April 27, 1942 in Frankford, Kentucky to Charles Woodrow and Kathryn (Evans) McKay.
Randy was a 1960 graduate of Boone County High School in Florence, KY. He then attended Murray State College from 1961 to 1962 in Murray, KY. Following college, he moved around the Midwest, from Waukegan, IL, where he enjoyed working on and racing cars, to St. Louis, MO. Randy later settled in Palm Coast, FL, in 2000, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Randy liked to pass the time playing cards, meeting friends at the café, and attending church at Hammock First Baptist Church. Most notably, Randy was an avid author and painter all his life. He authored over a dozen written works, including two historical novels, “KingPin” (2012), the story of Geo Remus who went from being a lawyer to a bootleg kingpin during Prohibition Era in Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 1900s, and the “Twisted Star” (2017), based on Henry Plummer, the notorious outlaw and sheriff of Bannack, MT, that used his badge to rob and kill the people he swore to protect during the mid-1800s. Randy was very talented in oil painting as well. He could create beautiful landscapes and portraits. It would have brought Randy great pleasure to know others were still enjoying his work.
He is survived by his daughter, Crystal (Ray) Vines, two grandchildren, Gabriel and Abigail, his brother Jeff (LaJuana) McKay, and his sister Lynn Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Karen. Randy will be remembered for his creativity and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A public memorial will be held on July 27, 2025, starting promptly at 10:45am at the Hammock First Baptist Church, 5328 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Palm Coast, FL, 32137. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Samaritan Ministries, PO Box 24, Bunnell, FL 32110.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, FL assisted the family with arrangements. www.HeritageFlagler.com
