Raymond Joseph Clifford
Raymond Joseph Clifford of New Smyrna Beach, FL was born on April 3, 1948 in Bronx, NY to the late Raymond J. Clifford and Mary Clifford McClean nee Ugis. He passed away on June 18, 2013 at his home at the age of 65 years.
Ray served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, among other medals. He graduated with a BS in History from St. Francis College in New York, and had a degree in the Culinary Arts from Florida International University. Ray taught tennis and also served as chief of the lifeguards at the Breezy Point Surf Club; he was a retired Court Officer with the State of New York. Ray loved his country, veterans, the NY Yankees, Star Trek; he was a master at Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will remember his courage, loyalty, zest for life, larger than life personality and giving heart. The family is mourning the loss of their “Fierce Angel” – who was dedicated to always protecting those he loved.
He is survived by his siblings; Nora Frances Clifford and Thomas Paul Clifford.
Scattering of ashes ceremonies will be held in New Smyrna Beach, FL and Montauk, NY.
