Rev. Virgil “Leo” Kinnett
Rev. Virgil "Leo" Kinnett was born in Connersville, IN, on January 22, 1934, to the late William Virgil Abrum Kinnett and Opal Kinnett nee Hart. Leo went to be with the Lord and those preceding him on Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach, FL, at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 3 days.
On June 20, 1952, Rev. Kinnett enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served during the Korean Conflict then was honorably discharged February 9, 1954. He was later united in marriage to his loving wife, Lorena Kinnett nee Hawkins on April 14, 1956, in Osgood, IN, and spent the next 56 years, 5 months, and 11 days together. During their ministry, the Kinnett family served as missionaries to the Comanche Indians on the North American Indian District at Cache, OK, in the late 60's and early 70's. Throughout the 44 years of ministry as an Ordained Elder for the Church of the Nazarene he pastored 8 churches. He and his family relocated to this area in 1985 until his retirement. After retirement, he received his Evangelist's license in 2008.
During the next chapter of his life, he founded Coastal Cremation Service and Shipping, Inc. of Palm Coast, FL, and operated it until his death. "Leo", as he was known to many of the families he served in and around the Palm Coast area, cared for over 2,000 families throughout approximately 20 years. He was loved by his family, respected by his peers, and was a blessing to many families in their time of need. He was an inspiration to those he ministered and to the many other death care professionals. He had a reputation in the Funeral Service community for honesty, compassion, empathy, and his generosity.
Other than his parents, Rev. Kinnett is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Rev. Kinnett is survived by his wife Lorena Kinnett of Port Orange, FL; their five sons, Jack Kinnett and wife Tammy of Orlando, FL; Pastor Terry Kinnett and wife Sherry of Port Orange, FL; Larry Kinnett and wife Twila of Nashville, IN; Randy Kinnett and wife Hana of Port Orange, FL; Tim Kinnett and wife Nichole of Port Orange, FL; one daughter, Twyla Dawn Spurgeon and husband Pete of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Emma Jean Tickle of Greensburg, IN; and Linda Lou Ritchie of Osgood, IN. Leo's legacy also included 21 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren that will soon be born.
Visitation for Rev. Kinnett will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012, from 6pm until 8pm at the DeLand Church of the Nazarine. Rev. Kinnett's Funeral service, a Going Home Celebration, is to be held Friday, October 5, 2012, at 6:30 pm from the DeLand Church of the Nazarene, 916 East New York Ave., DeLand, FL, 32724. A private inurnment service will take place in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, at a later date.
