Robert William Hansen's Obituary
Robert William Hansen, born on January 1, 1934, in Ghent, NY, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024. He was the beloved son of Elizabeth Mahoney, born in Waterbury, CT, and Harry Steele, born in Middlebury, CT.
Robert attended the University of Connecticut and became a highly respected member of his community. He served as past Chairman of the Stafford Republican Town Committee and was a dedicated member and past Deacon of the Staffordville Congregational Church. His commitment to public service extended to his five years on the Connecticut Council of Corrections and involvement on several local boards.
A proud veteran, Robert served eight years in the United States Army during the Korean War era, earning both the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He continued his dedication to veterans' affairs as a member of the American Legion.
A longtime resident of Stafford, Connecticut, Robert retired as a supervisor at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores (Irish) Hansen, as well as his siblings: Dorothy Dubiel, Rosemary Tweeddale, Einer (Vincent) Hansen, and Harry Hansen.
Robert is survived by his son, Mark Hansen ( Sheila) of Chicopee, MA, and his daughter, Rebecca Wetzel and husband Scott of Stafford Springs, CT. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Matthew Hansen of San Diego, CA, married to Alexandra Devaux; Rachelyn Provencher of Sutton, MA, married to Joseph Messier; and Alexander Thompson of Deltona Florida. He was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Cody Messier.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held in Stafford, Connecticut, at a later date.
He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, country, and community.
