Robert Orlando Skaer's Obituary
Robert Orlando Skaer, 80, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Advent Health in Palm Coast. He was born on October 1, 1944, in Belleville, IL.
Robert, known for his hardworking nature and boundless energy, was always on the go. As a young boy, he sold newspapers, helped farmers pick vegetables, and mowed the Woodmen’s lawn — all so he could buy his beloved western comic books and Elvis Presley albums. His passion for collecting cowboy memorabilia and St. Louis Cardinals keepsakes was well known. A diehard Cardinals fan, Robert’s all-time favorite player was Ken Boyer, and he rarely missed a game. If you were ever looking for him, you’d likely find him at a local auction or tending to his perfectly manicured lawn.
Life changed for Robert after his Parkinson’s diagnosis. The man who was always moving had to slow down, a difficult adjustment for someone who took such joy in staying busy. Though he could no longer attend auctions, he found comfort in watching his favorite cowboy, the Lone Ranger, on television and playing "school" with his cherished great-granddaughter, Aria. Robert was Aria’s biggest fan — her constant supporter and loving great-grandfather. She was the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon (nee Kleinschmidt), and his
parents, Oliver and Lillian (nee Poetker) Skaer.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Angie of Palm Coast, FL; his granddaughter, Ashley (Erik) Skaer-Tilley; his adored great-granddaughter, Aria Tilley; and many dear family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Paul United
Church of Christ in Floraville, IL, officiated by Rev. Matt Friz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Floraville, IL.
Robert’s legacy of hard work, unwavering love for his family, and passion for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
