Roy L Harris' Obituary
Roy L. Harris was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 26, 1949 to the proud parents of Lurline Williams and Ralph Lincoln Harris. Roy is the second of four boys. He attended Whitfield Primary and then Wolmer’s Boys High School. After graduating from high school, he took the Civil Service Exam in Jamacia and entered the Government Office as an Excise Officer in 1961. In 1969 he joined Edwin Charley as a stock clerk but did not find the job rewarding. He later rejoined the Civil Service in 1975 as a payroll clerk and stayed in that position until his departure to the USA in 1979.
After entering the USA, he took the GED exam and earned a perfect score. Roy was then offered a scholarship to a university. He put off going to college and took the Civil Service Government Exam and joined the Social Services Department as a Clerk in New York. Roy took several upgrading exams and moved up the ladder as Head of Control and then as Assistant Director of the Social Services Department. Due to his illness over the years, he was later classified as disabled.
Roy and his wife Rosemarie of 42 years, moved to Palm Coast, Florida in 2012. They moved here to enjoy the house they built as well as the year-round sunshine. Roy loved all genre music and
spent most his days playing and enjoying his collection of music.
Roy is survived by his lovely wife Rosemarie, his children Antoinette, Kevin, Taryn and Sharif. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Everton, Tahjmuir, Venesia, Isabella and Tyler. His nieces Anne and Hopie. Cousins Trevor, Patsy and Lorna. A host of good friends.
