Sabatino M. Ceruso's Obituary
Sabatino “Sam” Ceruso was born on November 4, 1947 in Rocca Priora, Roma (Italy) into a large loving family. Sabatino was a vivacious child and his parents fostered his creativity by encouraging him to become a barber. At the age of 17, Sabatino immigrated to the U.S. and settled in New York. Sabatino loved America and became a citizen as soon as possible. Shortly thereafter, Sammy as his American family called him, was drafted into the army and sent to Vietnam. Sammy felt at home living the rigor and discipline of military life so he became a career soldier and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. Sergeant Ceruso’s army career brought him to live in various U.S. cities and then to Germany and Korea.
Sammy was married and adopted two sons. His son, Michael, remained his companion and buddy throughout Sammy’s thirteen year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Sammy fought hard and outlived his prognosis, but his body was tired and he passed on January 14, 2022. Sammy had many talents among them playing the guitar and singing.
Sabatino Ceruso will be remembered by his family and friends as a valiant soldier who fought the good fight and lived his life with faith, hope, and love. Sabatino was predeceased by his parents Raffaella and Carmine and his sisters Caterina, Michelina, and Filomena. He is survived by is son, Michael, his sisters Maddalena, Anna, and Maria and his brothers Gerardo, Rino, and Antonio and numerous nephews and nieces.
A funeral mass will be offered on February 2, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Florida. Sergeant Sabatino Ceruso will receive military funeral honors and burial at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
