Sidney Jonathan Carter's Obituary
Sidney Jonathan Carter, lovingly known to many as Jonathan, was taken too soon on July 11, 2025, at the age of 44.
Born on May 27, 1981, in St. Augustine, Florida, Jonathan was the son of John "Buddy" Carter and the late Debra Davis. Life’s waters weren’t always smooth for Jonathan, but through every storm and calm, he held on to the things that mattered most—family, hard work, and the peaceful moments he found by the water. He loved to fish, often saying there was nothing better than casting a line and waiting for the tug of a bite, surrounded by the people he loved.
Jonathan’s greatest pride was his family. His legacy lives on in his children: Brittany, Levi, and Hunter, and in his grandchildren: Raelyn, Rhyleigh, John, Wyatt, and Jaxon.
He is also survived by his father, John "Buddy" Carter (Danielle); his siblings: Bud (Julie), Michael (Sarah), Jacob, and Daisy (Billy); his grandparents Charlie and Kathleen; and his nieces and nephews: Dalton, Dixie, Clay, Justin, Kylie, Skylar, Rissy, Mark, and Lulu. Jonathan’s circle of family and friends was as wide as a casting net—he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Debra Davis; grandparents LaFrance and Gordy; his sister Lori; his brother Toby; cousins Josh and Melissa; his uncle Wayne; and his aunt Kathy.
A Celebration of Jonathan’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church in Palatka, Florida, with Pastor Willie B. McKinnon III officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Jonathan will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery West.
Following the graveside service, friends and family are invited to gather for a reception in the Green Family Center at Trinity Baptist Church. If you plan to attend, please bring a covered dish to share as we continue to celebrate Jonathan’s life and share memories together.
Though his life was cut too soon, Jonathan’s memory will live on like the stories shared at the end of a long day on the water—cherished, retold, and never forgotten.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
