Dearest Norma, Stacey, Nicole & Family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved Tom. I’m certain you will be surrounded by those who loved him sharing their wonderful memories. I’d like to take a moment to share mine~as I’d like you to share my story with your beautiful grandchildren.
We met when I was a child, my family belonged to the Totowa United Methodist Church and my parents were good friends with Norma’s parents June & Norm. Soon Norma & Tommy and Karen & Harry and our families were intertwined. The church was not just a place for prayer, but it was a huge community where we cared for each other, supported one another, and socialized together. Norm served on the property committee with my Dad and a gang of their crazy friends who had a blast together~all while keeping up repairs for the church building. The gang would get together at each other’s homes and Norm would play the guitar & my dad would play the harmonica & sing. Several cocktails were involved so they always sounded better by the end of the night! My mom & June worked on many fundraisers together and the four of them took many trips together through the Senior group.
As I got older, I became closer with Norma & Tommy first babysitting for Stacey & Nicky~I was also their Kindergarten Sunday school teacher!~and then socialized as an adult with them. We had great times together. When I was 21 I had awoken with a stiff and painful neck and was put in a neck brace by my medical doctor. Tommy had told me to go see Dr. David Albert, his chiropractor, and that he worked miracles. I trusted Tom and gave him a call- not ever knowing that call would change my entire life. Dr. Albert not only fixed my neck problem, I began working at his office and referring many other patients that needed care. Long story short, I became a chiropractor And we fell in love and got married! We were together for over 10 years, and Sadly David passed away from cancer 5 months after we had our son, Jordan. I have been practicing Chiropractic caring for 33 years now and I had the privilege of caring for 4 generations of your family~from Norm & June, Tommy & Norma, Karen & Family, Stacey, Nicky & Jimmy to Jess, Danielle, CJ, Sklyer, and Piper. (I hope you kids remember me!). Tommy & Norma were involved in my healthy living program and they were both my star patients losing weight, and learned to make healthy nutritional choices. Tommy became my ‘poster guy’ as he was handsome, fit, and looked much younger than his years! Tommy took great pride in continually learning about his health and well-being, and staying fit whether it be golfing or competing on the tennis courts from Wayne and later in Palm Coast!
Obviously today we are saddened by his sudden passing, and are left with so many unanswered questions due to this damn virus. We’ll never know if anything would have made any difference in his outcome. I believe we need to focus on the most healthy lifestyle that he led, and that he certainly lived life to the fullest! We each have our loving stories and memories with Tom, but I needed to share the profound impact that he had on my life and to say, “thank you Tommy for all the beautiful gifts that you brought into my life”. May you all know how loved, respected, and cherished Tom was to so many. He made a difference in this world!
I’m so saddened that I can’t be with your family today, but please know that I am sending you all my support and hugs. I will be watching on the livestream praying together with you from afar for our dear Tommy.
With Much Love,
Dr. Darlene Walode
