Walter Carl Schaaf Jr.'s Obituary
With profound sorrow, we share the news of the peaceful passing of Walter Carl Schaaf, Jr., at the age of 77, surrounded by love in Orange City, Florida. Born on March 2, 1947, in the heart of Camden, New Jersey, Walter was the cherished son of the late Walter and Gladys Schaaf.
Two decades ago, Walter made Palm Coast, Florida his home, leaving behind the bustling streets of South Jersey. His spirit was as vibrant as the sun-soaked Florida landscape. As a proud US Air Force Reserve Veteran, he dedicated six honorable years to serving his country. His name graced the pages of the Who's Who of American College Athletes, a testament to his passion for sports, including golf, tennis, and the theatrical arts. Yet, among all his passions, Walter held a special affection for animals, particularly his beloved dogs.
In his professional endeavors, Walter's legacy extended far beyond his tenure. He retired from UPS as a division manager, but his impact was felt nationwide. He pioneered the driver's bonus program in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, setting a standard of appreciation for hard work and dedication. Additionally, his innovative initiative, Vest-A-Cop, brought communities and law enforcement together, a beacon of safety and solidarity. These programs continue to enrich lives today, a testament to Walter's enduring influence.
Walter leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his cherished daughter, Elizabeth Ann Schaaf; and grandson, Jack.
To honor and celebrate Walter's remarkable life, a gathering will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Palm Coast, Florida.
In this time of mourning, let us find solace in the memories we shared with Walter, a remarkable man whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched countless lives.
