Wayne Michael Reynolds' Obituary
Thank you for coming to celebrate the life of Wayne Michael Reynolds.
Wayne Michael Reynolds born August 19, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to loving parents Freeman “Lee” and Teresa Vasco Reynolds and his adoring older sister, Patricia, a very excited ten year old who had long awaited the arrival of a sibling. Because of the age gap, Wayne became the real live baby doll for his sister, which then developed into a close lifelong relationship.
Wayne was a very cute and outgoing kid and quickly demonstrated his musical talents and love for performance at a very young age. He went from drumming with two spoons, to playing numerous instruments and thus began his love affair with singing and performing. He was in the high school choir, marching band, concert band and performed in several local singing groups and bands.
Although he finished in the top 95% of his class, he was voted “Student of The Year” in his senior year mostly due to his friendly and social personality. What he had was unique, as he was liked and respected by the many high school cliques at that time. With his big presence and performance skills, everyone seemed to know and like Wayne Reynolds!
We always assumed that much of this performance talent came from our father who had several hit records in the 50’s with the Rock & Roll group, The Fireflies with their top hit “You Were Mine”. Wayne was in several bands and also played gigs with our father. Music and performance remained an important part of his life. After graduation, Wayne went to 5 Towns College for music and finished up at NYIT, New York Institute of Technology for Mass Communications/Journalism.
Wayne loved New York and enjoyed living and working in “The City”. During his 20’s, you would find Wayne cutting up the dance floor in the local discos of that era and then he eventually settled into rock and jazz. During this time, he began working in the broadcast industry at the big broadcasting stations, ABC, CBS & NBC as an Audio & Video Editor. When Wayne was not working, you would find him in “The City” hanging out, listening to jazz or playing some pool in his hang out on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
About 10 years ago, he decided to give the Palm Coast area a try, where he resided with his mother, who passed away March 5, 2021. While he always missed New York, he enjoyed the diverse mix of residents of the area (and a lot of New Yorkers). He began to spend more time singing and was a regular fixture at local karaoke nights, was in several on stage productions, played in several groups and was the lead singer in the local doo wop group One More Time. Wayne loved to socialize and perform.
My brother had a zest for life. We loved him so much and are heartbroken he had to leave so soon.
He is in a better place with his father, mother and God.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia O’Connor (Jimmy), Cousins in Florida, New York City , and many, many friends.
We know we will, sometime in the future, be together again in heaven and we will be singing songs in perfect harmony.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Palm Coast.
