Wilford B. Carpenter's Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announces that on April 9th, Wilfred B. Carpenter Jr. (Bill), passed away at the age of 88. Bill was born on September 4, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Wilfred B. Carpenter, Sr. and Hazel Carpenter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara Carpenter; son, Dean Carpenter (Barbara); daughter, Paula Bale (Travis); grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kourtney Bale; along with extended family and many friends who were considered as family.
On August 10th , 1946, at 10 years of age, Bill was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and at 17, he was accepted to work at their World Headquarters in New York. During that time, he had the privilege of working at WBBR, a radio station used at the time to share the good news of the Bible with others. On June 11th , 1955, at the age of 19, Bill married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara. Bill and Barbara then became traveling ministers and spent the next 10 years serving in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, and New Jersey. They eventually settled in Interlachen, FL and raised their family for the next 30 years. During this time, Bill worked as a general contractor in North Central Florida and as a licensed contractor for Miller Enterprises. In the late 1990s, Bill served in the planning and construction oversight of the Daytona Beach Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. After construction was completed, he served as Chairman of the Assembly Hall committee for 24 years.
In 2002, Bill and Barbara relocated to Palm Coast, FL, where they currently reside. In addition, for over 65 years, Bill served as a loving congregation elder. Throughout his spiritual career as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he served as Presiding Overseer (COBE), Special Pioneer, Circuit Overseer, Patient Visitation Group Member, Assembly Overseer and Convention Overseer.
Bill is well-known for being a mentor and friend to countless people. His loving, kind, and humble demeanor was evident to everyone he encountered. All who knew him will have fond memories of his keen interest and concern for others, his fatherly wisdom and advice, and his spirituality. A memorial service will be held on April 21, 2024, 5:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 1970 Old Kings Rd N, Palm Coast, FL. The service will also be streamed on Zoom:
