Wilfred L Weaver's Obituary
Wilfred Leslie Weaver, a member of the Chosin Few, passed away in his bed surrounded by family on Wednesday early morning, January 10th, 2024. He was 95 years of age. Lovingly known as (Woofie) by friends and family alike. He was born on October 23rd,1928 to (Buck) Maurice Ellsworth Weaver and Ida Jennings Lowndes) in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He would spend his youth here until he enlisted in the US MARINE CORPS, In 1949
Wilfred was a combat Tank Commander veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Weaver was assigned to the Fifth Marine Regiment as part of the First Provisional Marine Brigade and later the First Marine Division. At the outbreak of hostilities, his Regiment was sent to Korea, During the war, Mr. Weaver participated in many historical campaigns including the assault and seizure of the Inchon Landing and was a survivor of the epic battle at the Chosin Reservoir. After 4 years of service and attaining the rank of Corporal, he was Honorably discharged in 1952.
After his return from the war, He began racing cars and became a member of the (SMYRA) Southern New York Racing Association where he raced stock cars in the Danbury racing arena.
He became an Electrician as well as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with Ridgefield Fire Department, Woofie was a master electrician with Dingee Electric before purchasing the business with partner Richard Carboni in 1964 in his hometown where he met and married Adrienne May Benninger on March 28th,1957, Wilfred was the beloved husband whom he shared over 55 years of marriage. Before her passing on August 23rd,2011 where he will join her in resting at Beaufort National Cemetery.
Wilfred was a great artist and enjoyed painting in the great outdoors, He and Adrienne were avid bowlers and were on a team for many years. Woofie and Adrienne lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut, as well as Bremerton Washington; Port Charlotte Florida, before settling down in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
Wilfred is survived by his loving Children, (Son) Keith Alan Weaver and his Wife Wendy residing in Palm Coast Florida (Son) Eric Alan Weaver Residing in St Augustine Florida, 7 Grandchildren, Austin Weaver, Claire Weaver, Henry Weaver, Stella Weaver, Laila Weaver of Hilton Head South Carolina, Michael Weaver and Wife Meghan residing in Newtown Connecticut, Laura Weaver married Buck Castelli residing in Bethel Connecticut.
3 Great Children, Mason, Olivia, Elenor Weaver. Residing in Newtown Connecticut.
The family will welcome friends at 2:00PM, January 26th, 2024, for Wilfred’s graveside service with honors at: Beaufort National Cemetery
