Bill was always a great friend to me, actually the “best” friend to me. We have been lifelong friends and even though we became separated by distance and the dedication to our families our child hood, teen and adult memories held our bond as brothers as if we never missed a beat.
Bill Willis was truly a man that if the expression “that man would give you the shirt off his back” it originated with Bill…did not matter how down and out he was if he had it or could do it for you he would do so, and he always did it with joy and honor.
Bill truly loved his wonderful wife Zelda and his children and anyone that knew Bill knew of his dedication, devotion and unconditional love that he showered on his family as well as anyone that had the blessing to meet him.
Bill loved anything to do with stereos, computer hardware and technology, but his true passion and gift for preparing the most awesome, spectacular, inspiring food dishes came naturally to him.
In 1984 Bill was building and creating computer systems by hand and I was gifted with the ability to write in DOS code at the time and together we would build complete computer systems way before windows OS was presented to the world. Bill and I would spend any and all of our leisure time in his basement in St. Charles, Missouri hooking up and communicating on, back then what was known as BBS boards that used telephone lines on DOS driven BBS boards that we used as “our internet”…sharing information and transferring software code and programs with other users, which at the time was almost unheard of.
Our friendship and our shared interest in technology provided us both to use our talents to become self-employed at something we both loved to do. I miss those times in the basement way back then and all the time we spent gaming and talking about our futures and about life itself.
We both also shared the same beliefs about God and what kind of spiritual walk we should be trying to ascertain, Bill was a very relaxed laid back kind of personality that never gave in to panic or stress and that mainly came from his faith in the Lord and that he always trusted that on his spiritual walk everything would be ok, and it was very true for Bill Willis, he had his struggles like we all do, but his was always easier because his faith proved true that thing always did work out for him and his family.
Bill was a great man, a great spirit and it was a great honor to know him and share a large part of my life with him and his family, and to this day I am always telling stories about Billy and Zelda and how we met at such tender ages of 14 and the fun times and the bad times and the times that over all this time has molded us into who we became, but Bill was already a special man that did not need much molding because his meek ever giving spirit and true desire to help other people and “pay it forward” was much more rewarding to him than any material possession. Anyone that knew Bill knows exactly what I am talking about, and if everyone on this planet had the same spirit, desires and unconditional love that the man William “Bill” “Billy” Willis had…..oh…..what a wonderful world this would be.
It is with great sadness and my heart is heavy that my best friend has gone to be with our Lord, but it is with great joy and confidence that I know exactly where he has gone and he now starts a new spectacular journey where he deserves to be.
Until the day we meet together on that new journey my friend I know you will be here with me and with your beloved family in spirit where as you were here making sure that everyone is taking care of. I will miss you and I love you, my friend, my brother, my mentor…peace and happiness is now yours for eternity.
Just me, Larry
