Winifred M Blackwell's Obituary
Winifred M. Blackwell “Pinky”, 78, passed away on August 10, 2022 in St. Augustine, Florida. Winifred was born on February 27, 1944, in Jacksonville Florida. She was raised in the Alhambra neighborhood and graduated from Landon High School class of ’61. She met Ted Blackwell, in 1963 and married later that year on November 23rd. Their only child, Ted Blackwell Jr. "Teddy" was born in September 1964. The family of three lived in the five points area of Jacksonville until 1970.
The family moved to south Florida living in Singer Island, West Palm, and eventually purchasing their first home in Lake Park Florida. Pinky was a stay-at-home mom and was active in the PTA through Teddy’s elementary school years. Through the years Pinky and Ted enjoyed the close friends they acquired through the neighborhood by playing tennis, watching their son play baseball, sailing their Hobie cat, going offshore fishing, and going to the beach.
In 1978 the three relocated to North Beach, St. Augustine Florida building a house on the Intracoastal where they remained for 36 years. While here, Ted was a self-employed carpenter, and Pinky was employed by the St. Johns County School system as a teacher's aid for 32 years, where they met many of their close and dear friends. They continued to live and make friends in North Beach until the summer of 2020 and relocated to a small home in Vermont Heights.
Pinky and Ted kept close relationships with the friends they acquired through work and school and had countless lunch and dinner parties. Pinky cherished her friends and family, and continually nurtured the relationships of all she met.
Ted and Pinky were a perfect match, best friends, and together traveled to many places worldwide. On November 23rd, 2022, they would’ve celebrated 60 years of marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents Winifred (mother) and Harold (father) McMurry. Pinky is survived by her husband, Ted Blackwell Sr., son, Ted Blackwell Jr. (Bonnie Blackwell), her two grandchildren, Taylor (Jake) and Isabell Blackwell, brother James McMurry and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
