Edward L Doerr's Obituary
On July 19, 2020 Edward passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family (most virtually), at the age of 80. He was met at the “Pearly Gates” by his loving wife Carol, parents Leo and Theresa Doerr, and brother Thomas Doerr. Ed is survived by his children, Cheryl (Bryan) Boehlert, Ken (Linda) Doerr, Brian (Lisa) Doerr, Julie (Dutch Burdick) Williams, grandchildren Alexis and Austin Boehlert, Krista (Evan) Hart, Matt Yannello, Zachary Doerr, Ashley Williams, Christy (Jay) Grady, Bethany (Jacob) Thornton. Great grandchildren McKailyn, Shaun and Lane Hart, Lilliana and Gianni Yannello, Dametrii Salamida, Jordan Grady, Izaiah McMurrin, Orion, Calliyha and Jayde Grady and Ethan and Navie Thornton. Ed is also survived by his brother Gerard Doerr, sister-in-law Rita Doerr, and many nieces and nephews. Ed leaves behind many close friends in Davenport FL, Sodus, and Geneva NY, as well as many other locations throughout the country, who will miss his charming personality.
Ed spent many years working for the Town of Geneva, maintaining their roads, often referencing his ability to hold up a shovel, coffee cup, and a doughnut, all at the same time.
Ed also had his own mowing business; his daughter Julie would often help allowing him to spend time camping.
He was a character, who was loved by all, always offering a joke or smart remark, and proudly referring to himself as Chef Boy-R-Doerr when cooking. He played a large role in his children’s lives, acting as scout master and little league coach. He spent many hours working on cars in his Geneva garage, with his sons and friends. Dad loved children and pets, who loved him right back. He was always there to help anyone with projects, working on their homes and/or cars. He loved to golf, once coming within an inch of making a hole-in-one! He also loved playing cards, especially with his grandchildren, and was quite the competitor in Gin Rummy.
Ed and Carol loved to camp, traveling to many different areas in the country. They were especially close with their camping family, for many years. Ed spent many evenings patrolling Polk County, as a member of The Citizen’s Assist Patrol, with his friend Joan.
Due to the circumstances associated with the pandemic, Ed’s family will be hosting a private celebration of his life, at a later date, when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation, might consider Advent Health Palm Coast, 60 Medical Parkway, Palm Coast FL, 32164 or The Lipson Cancer Institute, 1425 Portland,
