Eric was a very young man of about fifteen when the Jump family moved in next door (on Guam) to be my neighbor. Eric, his sisters and I spent many happy hours swimming, snorkeling, and skirting inside the reef in the Jump family’s sailfish. Eric once treated me to a sail just outside the reef under a Guam landmark called Two Lovers’ Leap. I can still recall the warm sparkling blue water lapping at the side of the sailfish as we moved along, the beautiful sky overhead, and Eric’s calm presence. We were both entirely in the moment. All these decades later and that day stands out as one of those very blessed moments that you never forget, one that Eric made possible.
