Eugene E. Gerstler's Obituary
Eugene E. Gerstler
Eugene E. Gerstler has arrived in his heavenly home and achieved his life's greatest desire of being welcomed into the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ. Gene was born on November 17, 1937 in Ann Arbor, MI and passed away on August 21, 2014 in Palm Coast, FL at the age of 76.
Gene married the love of his life, Jean (Shubnell) on April 4, 1959 and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together. They were blessed with a beautiful family of 8 children including Sue (Dennis), Dan (Wendy), Cindy (Ed), Patti (Tim), Dave (Terri), Carol (Craig), Don, Deb (Randy), as well as 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Gene's family was a great source of joy to him and he looks forward to the day they will be reunited.
Gene will be remembered for his gentle spirit and leading a God-serving life. He was an inspiration to many, especially his children who are striving to follow his example of giving selflessly and leading a Christian life.
Gene's printing career began at the Ann Arbor News, followed by the Ypsilanti Press, ultimately realizing his dream of owning and operating The Print Shop in Chelsea, MI for 25 years. Gene and Jean (also known as "an old pair of jeans") retired in 2002 to their home in Palm Coast, FL.
In addition to building the family home and several of his children’s homes, Gene enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, grilling his famous barbecued chicken, and challenging family and friends to games of Euchre. Later in life he realized his artistic gift of painting and blessed many family and friends with these beautiful treasures.
Gene felt it was very important to give back and demonstrated this by donating countless hours to many causes including Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Resource Center (Food Bank), and Hospice Volunteers.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held in Florida and Michigan. The family encourages you to attend in bright, colorful attire.
