Geraldine L Trebilcock's Obituary
With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Geraldine “Gerry” Louise Trebilcock of Flagler Beach, FL, on August 26, 2024. She was 86 years old. Gerry was born on March 9, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan, the youngest of four daughters, to Phillip and Ella Leigh. Her humble beginnings started in a small house with no indoor plumbing. Gerry spent her childhood days picking blueberries in the fields behind her house, playing with her three older sisters, and enjoying a wholesome Michigan upbringing.
She met the love of her life, Michael “Mick” Claude Trebilcock, in Muskegon, where he settled after immigrating to the United States from England in 1952. They married in 1958, and moved to Corning, New York, where Mick began his career at Corning Glass Works. Gerry was a busy homemaker, as their family expanded to include five active sons.
The family moved to South Miami, Florida in 1970, where Mick worked for Baxter (American Hospital Supply Corporation) and Gerry managed the boys and their activities at home. Once the boys got older, she went to work as an administrative assistant in the College of Engineering at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, then moved to the medical campus in downtown Miami, where she supported the Pharmacology department. She befriended professors and doctoral students, many of whom became lifelong friends, and who continued to visit her after she and Mick retired to Flagler Beach in 1996.
In Flagler Beach, Gerry and Mick built their dream waterfront house that overlooked the intercostal waterway and was a couple blocks away from the beach off of A1A, offering magnificent sunsets and abundant wildlife, and plenty of room for guests. Their sons, friends and families visited often, and they loved spending time with their grandchildren, fishing and kayaking off their dock. They always had a full itinerary for visitors, and Gerry was known for her fabulous picnic lunches. Gerry enjoyed her caring and supportive neighborhood friends, being part of the “Peeps” / Sunshine Social Club and attending Sunday services at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Long before it was fashionable, Gerry began practicing alternative nutrition and supplements, and followed a gluten-free diet for most of her adult life. She could often be found tending her gardens and yard. She mowed her lawn into her 80’s, rode her stationary bike every night, and exemplified staying fit as she aged.
Gerry is survived by four sons – Christopher (Clara) of Panama City, Florida; Michael of Kissimmee, Florida; Mark (Claudia) of Santa Clarita, California; and Norman (Lisa) of Naples, Florida. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, her sisters Eunice and Carol, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and relatives. Gerry was pre-deceased by her husband, Mick, her son, David (Beth), and her sister, Phyllis.
Her family will miss her dearly. Services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity-Presbyterian Church, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM at The Hideaway Lounge at Fricano Place in Muskegon, MI.
