If it had not been for Ernie and Susie Saunders, I would not be enjoying the life I have now. I loved orchestra and jazz band so much that I made it my life's work. I remember how I would beg to follow them around all day rather than go to class! Of course they couldn't take me with them but I vowed that I would teach music so I could do what they did. I was so blessed to have had Ernie and Susie in my life. They really were my second parents and I owe my love of teaching music to young people fo them. Now you can play in the heavenly jazz band, Ernie!

I knew Ernie from back in the sixties when I was on the Johnson Factory Racing Team. Ernie was seriously injured testing his Switzer Wing race boat powered by Johnsons. He was a great friend for many years with interesting stories. I was fortunate to visit him in Simpsonville for several years before he moved to Palm Coast. My best regards to his family and friends for our loss.

All of us who are associated with the Derby City Corvair Club in Louisville were saddened to hear about Ernie's passing. Ernie was a good friend and he taught us all a lot about our cars. The summer picnics in Simpsonville at the family homestead were always fun. Ernie was such a giving person. His passing leaves a void in our lives. He will be remembered for years to come. Mary we are so sorry for your loss. We will keep you in our prayers.

As special as you thought I was, you were just as special to everyone. All of your musical children are better off having known you.

It was such a delight to visit with Ernie and Mary Lee before they moved to Florida. They seemed like two creative spirits in sweet harmony.

Jim and I are grateful for the cultural experiences Ernie provided for our three girls as they participated in the orchestra and community theatre. We treasure memories of his energy and zest for life.

We have known Ernie as a Flagler Cty. car club member. He always would show up at every event and was such a "Kentucky Gentleman".I felt I was a close friend and will surely miss his kind manerism. It was a privilege to know him. RIP Ernie

Ernie made such a difference in all our lives, mine, Leslie's, Doug's and Ted's, and all of Shelby County as well. There would be no Shelby County Community Theatre without him, and think what that has meant over the years, no community orchestra, no jazz band, no Carnival of Music. He brought world wide attention to this little town, and his students played music way above their years. I don't think the School Board ever appreciated him or his efforts. We have all lost a great friend. Our sympathy to all of you.

I am forever thankful for the day I walked into the orchestra room when the schools merged. My mother (Helen Tipton Newton) & her brothers & sisters had often talked fondly about a man they called "POOCH" growing up in Simpsonville,so I moved from band because I wanted to widen my music knowledge.
You influienced my life very much more than I thank you ever knew, with friends, memories of Ball State, & the appreciation of music I got just from your energy conducting. I & my mother truly are in sorrow with your passing. Myles, my prayers are with you.

Ernie was a trooper. I did not know him as well as I know you. But I was really impressed with him in our Silver Sneakers class. He was a really nice guy and I am so sad for your loss Mary.
