Our wonderful friendship began 18 years ago. We met Jim and Karen at an anchorage, during our sailing years, in Georgetown in the Bahamas. Jim loved sailing his boat, Lark, and we both set anchor in a waterway off of Georgetown in 2002. Jim and Karen answered an invitation to tour the town of Georgetown. We instantly connected. Jim had the ability to make anyone laugh. His laugh was infectious. We had so many good times and laughs talking about our sailing adventures and life in general. Our friendship blossomed over the years. We had wonderful visits to their home in Pain Coast,Fl. We will always remember the meals that Jim prepared, especially the yummy grilled shrimp. We will always remember Jim and will always have Karen to reminisce all of the good times.

I am Elizabeth Cringles, whose mother was Anna Bakken, sister of Jens Bakken, Karen's dear father.

I am therefore one of Karen's two English cousins (my sister is Sylvia), and we both met Jim when he and Karen joined a family reunion in my home town in Scotland of OBAN in 2014. I had not met Karen since I was about 10 years old when her parents brought her and her two sisters, Ingrid and Lilian, to England and it was such a great joy to see her again after such a very long separation.

I had been widowed 5 years earlier, and one of my daughters, Abigail, also attended the happy family get-together, which involved 25 relatives from Norway, Germany, Wales, the USA and England. Abigail and I really warmed to Jim at once - and were struck by his charming smile, his lovely laugh and his enthusiasm for all family things! He was such good company, kind and thoughtful, and it was clear that he and Karen were a devoted couple.
Since then every Christmas has been enlivened by a hilarious animated card from Karen and Jim - unforgettable.

We are so thankful to have known Jim and feel so sad that Karen and the family will be feeling such a keen sense of loss at this time. We extend our sincere condolences and love, and pray for comfort to you all.
