Martha Sue Dillon's Obituary
Martha Sue Dillon, 79, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House surrounded by family. She was born on May 11, 1944, to Lois and Ollien D. Harper in Cairo, Illinois, and grew up in Charleston, Missouri.
She and Larry Dillon were married on November 23, 1993. Martha had a huge heart and loved helping others. This led her to her career as a hairstylist and the salon manager for JCPenney’s Salon from the store opening in the mall until her retirement. During her over 20 years as manager, the salon earned the title of million-dollar salon and was the largest salon between St. Louis and Memphis. Her clients and colleagues loved her and her work ethic.
Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication to her family. Her grandchildren meant everything to her and she would always be there to support them.
Survivors include her loving husband Larry Dillon; two daughters, Laura (Keith) Whitworth of Bryant, Arkansas, and Stephanie (Ryan) Ellinger of Scott City, Missouri; and stepson Brent (Sarah) Dillon of New Palestine, Indiana as well as seven Grandchildren: Kaleb and Larissa Whitworth; Cole, Aubrie, and Gracie Ellinger; and Aiden and Alex Dillon. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind her brother, Charles (Sandie) Harper, and sister Sharon Loomis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Galen Harper, and sisters, Annette Robertson, Frances Mays, Dixie Corrigan, and Margaret Anderson.
Martha’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her smile, loving heart, and kindness will forever be remembered and cherished.
A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at La Croix Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The funeral service will start at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, she will be buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, Florida is assisting with arrangements.
