Paul A Toy's Obituary
Paul A. Toy, 92, passed away on June 18, 2022, at Stuart F Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida.
Paul was born on April 21, 1930, in Cape May, New Jersey to the late Paul and Florence (Schofield) Toy.
Paul was born and raised in Cape May, New Jersey. He was raised a Catholic and had attended Our Lady Star of the Sea High School. He later attended Catawba College in North Carolina where he met his wife, Sallie.
Paul and Sallie married in 1952. Soon after, he was drafted in the Korean War and sent to serve in Japan for a year. Upon returning home from Japan, he began a career as a high school teacher, and he and Sallie settled into family life which by-and-by resulted in a large family, among whom included Denise, Mary Frances, Paul, and Florence.
Paul was a high school teacher in New Jersey for 32 years. However, he had worked many other various jobs throughout his life. He had been a paperboy and had done odd jobs on the docks for fishermen in Cape May during childhood. As a young adult he had worked as an insurance salesman and also as a bartender. Another venture during one period of his life was when Paul and Sallie had maintained a perfume stand on weekends at various open markets in South Jersey. Paul also had worked many years as a cook, and later even as a mini golf attendant in South Carolina.
Paul was an avid reader. He loved to travel, play chess, have an occasional trip to the horse races, cook, and play all types of card games -- especially bridge. He loved to travel and had many traveling adventures including Japan, England, Scotland, and France, and much more. Later in life he had discovered cruising and had lots of fun on his trips in the Caribbean.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie. He is survived by four of his children: Denise, Mary Frances, Paul, and Florence, and his four grandchildren: Shaun, Adam, Evan, and Benjamin, and three great grandchildren: Alexis, Mason and Emerson, and one great great grandchild, Alex.
A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
He was a loyal and beloved husband, father, neighbor, and friend, and will be with us forever in our hearts.
