Vernon “Richard” Peterson Jr.
Vernon “Richard” Peterson Jr. of Deland, FL was born in Deland, FL on June 3, 1947 to the late Vernon Richard Peterson Sr. and Ruby Peterson nee Jacob. He passed away on October 16, 2013 in Port Orange, FL at the age of 66 years after losing his battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Richard was a graduate of Stetson University and worked as a county auditor for the Volusia County School System for 33 years. He loved working with the office staff at each school and made many forever friends. Richard was a lifelong citrus grower, his knowledge and skill growing citrus trees grew from his love to continue what his father and grandfather began in the 1920’s. He was a charter member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deland, FL.
In addition to his aforementioned parents, Richard is preceded in death by his younger brother Warren Peterson.
He is survived by his siblings; Louise Routzahn and husband Bruce, Walter Peterson and wife Manny, and David Peterson and wife Linda.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 509 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Deland, FL 32724.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 509 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Deland, FL 32724. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall following the service at the church.
